TRUCK OVER DIMENSIONAL PERMIT LIMITATIONS

Weight: Single - 28,000 Lbs; Tandem - 45,000 Lbs; Tridum - 50,000 Lbs; Quad -55,000 Lbs breakdown must be applied to the Bridge Formula. Gross Weight: 110,000 Lbs; 7 Axles - 110,000 Lbs; 8 Axles-110,000 Lbs Excess of 110,000 Lbs or extreme weight on any axle grouping is considered a super load and requires a bridge analysis.

Length: No maximum set for vehicles operating over-length.

Width: No maximum set for vehicles operating overwidth, depends on each load.

16' and over requires Sunday travel.

Height: 15'.

If load exceeds any of these dimensions or weights, refer to the State for Super Loads.

TRUCK SIGNS & FLAGS

All permitted loads require Oversize load signs. The sign must be at least 18" high and between 6' and 8' long. The height of the letters shall be 10" in black on yellow background. However, approved color combination or wording of other states will be permitted when trip originated outside West Virginia. The signs shall be placed on the towing vehicle and also placed at the rear of the trailer. Flag or flashing amber light required if over 4' overhang.

ESCORT REQUIREMENTS

If the overall width is 10' 6" to 12' on 2 lane road one (1) Escort in the front, 7 days; 4 lane road None required, 7 days. Overall width 12' 1" to 14': 2 Lane road 1 Escort in the front, and 1 in the rear, 7 days; 4 lane road 1 in the rear, 7 days Overall Width 14'1" to 15": 2 lane road 1 Escort in the front, and 1 in the rear, 7 days"; 4 lane road 1 Escort in the front, and 1 in the rear, 7 days. Overall width 15'1" to 16': 2 lane road 2 Escorts in the front, and 1 in the rear, 7 days; 4 lane road, 1 Escort in the front, and 2 in the rear, 7 days, As required by permit, Sunday before noon: 2 and 4 lane: As required by permit and must be accompanied by law enforcement, Sun.

Districts and Parkway may require additional Escort or time restrictions.

West Virginia Parkway Authority restricts all vehicles in excess of 14' to movement on Mon.-Thurs. and Sun morning daylight until noon. No movement Fri: Maximum width 16' on Parkway.

15'1" - 16' can move Mon. - Fri and Sunday Morning until noon on 2 lane hwy only with law enforcement Escort.

Length 75' to 95": 2 lane - 1 rear, Mon.-Fri.; 4 lane – None, Length 95'1" to 100": 2 lane - 1 front, 1 rear, Mon.-Fri.; 4 lane - 1 rear, Mon.-Fri. Length 100'-1"': 2 lane - 1 front, 1 rear, Mon.-Fri; 4 lane - 1 front, 1 rear, Mon. -Frl.

OVERHANG: Front Overhang Exceeds 10"': 2 lane -1 front, Mon.-Fri.; 4 lane -1 front, Mon.-Fri. Rear Overhang Exceeds 10"': 2 lane - 1 rear, Mon.-Fri; 4 lane - 1 rear, Mon.-Fri

Districts and parkway authority may require additional Escorts

No Escorts required until overhang exceeds 10' front or rear

Overheight vehicles and/or loads: Height Exceeds 15": 2 lane - Front pole car required, Mon.-Fri.; 4 lane – In addition to any other Escort, Mon.-Fri Parkway (1-77/64) maximum height Yeager Bridge 15' 10"

ESCORT VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS

The Escort vehicle must weigh more than 2,000 pounds and have a manufacturer's gross weight rating less than 26,000 pounds. Identification signs or placards showing the name of the company or the owner or driver of the Escort in a conspicuous place on both the right and left sides are required. Signs shall be at least 8"x12" and also contain the telephone number of the owner or driver plainly legible. Escort vehicles must be equipped with either rotating or strobe amber yellow plastic, acrylic or glass covered flashing light which: Is visible from at least 500'; has a horizontal placement which is visible from all directions 360 degrees. Escort vehicles shall display bumper mounted or roof mounted yellow 5'x12" signs reading "OVERSIZE LOAD" with black letters 10" high, 1 1/2" wide brush stroke, which must be visible from front or rear. Two flags, red or safety orange, 18" square in size, shall be mounted at a 40 to 70 degree angle on the Escort vehicle's roof rack or flags may be mounted on all four corners of the vehicle. CB radio or two way communication device is required. Two 5 Lbs fire extinguishers (type A, B, C). A sign with a handle with the word "STOP" on one side, "SLOW" on the other of not less than 18" in diameter with 6" letters. A safety orange vest, shirt or jacket shall worn when directing traffic and a red hand-held flag (18" in size) are required. 2 oversized load banners (yellow with black lettering) are required. Three reflecting triangles or 18" traffic cones are required. Motor carriers of property may provide their own Escort services related to their vehicle load transportation with their own drivers and equipment, provided the public safety requirements laws of West Virginia are fulfilled relating to the Escort vehicle.

TRAVEL TIME

Travel is permitted Sunrise to Sunset. No weekend travel. Some travel allowed on weekends for Loads such as 14' wide and over and other dimension combinations you must request special permission to travel. Travel is restricted on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. The State Permit Office will also be closed on these holidays. You may request travel on weekend’s not over 110,000 Lbs gross, 14' wide, 75' long, legal height 13'6".
