TRUCK OVERDIMENSIONAL PERMIT LIMITATIONS Weight: In no case shall axle group weights exceed 20,000 Lbs single axle, 40,000 Lbs tandem axle group, 60,000 Lbs triple axle group, or 80,000 Lbs quad axle group. We now give 20,000 Lbs an axle. We no longer use the Federal Bridge formula for weight. Length: No set maximum, usually 110'-120'. If over 85' long on interstates a Light bar must be affixed to the rear of the trailer. Super Loads must receive special consideration by and have prior approval of the Dept. of Roads' Permit Office in Lincoln. It takes 5 working days. An overweight vehicle can be permitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Over 14'6" in height a pole car may be required (004.16A.Title 415) depending on routes. Loads over 14' wide and over 110,000 Lbs could be considered Super Loads. 16' high and over a pole car will be required (004.16B Title 415). Any dummy axle must carry at least the lesser of 8,000 Lbs. or 8% of the total gross weight.
TRUCK SIGNS FLAGS & LIGHTS The Department may require that the permittee display a sign or signs on the overdimensional vehicle stating "Oversize Load". Flags shall be red or orange fluorescent having a minimum size of 18" square. The Department may require red flags to be displayed on all 4 corners of the vehicle or vehicles or that an Escort vehicle accompany the movement of any overdimensional or overweight vehicle or load or both when the department feels it is better for the public because of weather conditions, road conditions or unusual size or weight of loads or vehicles. One revolving amber light on top of the tractor is required.
ESCORT REQUIREMENTS One (1) rear Escort for load in excess of 12' wide on interstate and front Escort on all other state highways is required. An escort vehicle may be required for vehicle or vehicle and load exceeding 8'6" in width (OO.415A 1), 90' in length, or 14' 6" in height. An alternate Light bar attachment may be allowed in lieu of an Escort vehicle on the Nebraska interstate highway or 4-lane divided highway. The Light bar must have a left and right flashing or rotary amber or yellow Light of sufficient size to be seen at a distance of not less than 800'. Lights shall be equipped with a minimum of 50 candlepower bulbs. Lights shall not be less than 6" in diameter and shall have 360 degree visibility on each revolution. Lightbar attachment shall be mounted on the rear of the load at a height sufficient to be seen clearly by traffic to the rear.
ESCORT VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS Any single vehicle(s) (standard size truck or car) of at least 60" wide is required. The vehicle shall be equipped with a revolving or flashing Light, the base of which shall be mounted a minimum of 53" above the roadway on top of the vehicle. The rotating amber or yellow Light to be of sufficient size to be seen at a distance of not less than 800'. Rotating amber or yellow Lights shall be equipped with a minimum 50 candlepower bulb, shall have a 360 degree visibility on each revolution and shall not be less than 6" in diameter. "Caution Wide Load" sign shall be displayed on the front or on the rear of the Escort vehicle and the sign shall be no less than 5' long by 12" high with 8" high letters. Red flags shall be required on all four corners of the Escort vehicle. A plain red cloth or orange fluorescent cloth marker having a minimum size of eighteen inches square in good repair and free of printing or other markings is required. Escort vehicles are required to maintain radio communication with the operator of the permit vehicle.
TRAVEL TIME Movement to be made during daylight hours, from one-half hour before Sunrise to one-half hour after Sunset 7 days a week, unless otherwise stated on the permit. Lincoln State Highways curfew: Weekdays 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.; 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Saturday/Sunday After 12:00 Noon; Omaha-State Highways and Interstates curfew: Weekdays: 7:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.; 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.; Saturday/Sunday After 12:00 Noon; Travel is prohibited on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. The State Permit Office will be closed on the above-mentioned holidays as well as Martin Luther King Day, Presidents' Day, Arbor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, and the day after Thanksgiving. Travel will not be restricted on these additional days. CURFEW: Travel embargo city limits of Omaha 7-9 a.m. and 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. weekdays only. | |||||
