TRUCK OVERDIMENSIONAL PERMIT LIMITATIONS Weight: Steering Axle-14,000 Lbs; Single - 20,000 Lbs; Tandem - 48,000 Lbs; Tridum - 57,000 Lbs, 63,000 Lbs interstate; Quad - 64,000 Lbs, 72,000 Lbs on interstates. Gross Weight: 5 Axles - 113,000 Lbs; 6 Axles - 123,000 Lbs; 7 Axles - 128,000 Lbs; 8 Axles - 141,000 Lbs. Length: No set maximum; Trailer length 53'; Width: 16'6"; Height: 17', controlled by clearance. If load exceeds any of these dimensions or weights, refer to the State on Super Loads. Loads overall 16' wide, 120' long, 20' high; gross weight of 190,000 Lbs constitutes a super load which requires front and rear escorts. Drawings, including axle weights and spacing are required.
TRUCK SIGNS AND FLAGS Signs should be 18" x 84" with wording "Oversize Load" in black letters 10" high with 1 5/8" brush stroke on yellow or orange background and are required on all loads in excess of 12' wide. Red flags 18" square will be displayed on all corners at a height of approximately 6' above the pavement on moves in excess of 10', not exceeding 12' in width. All loads in excess of 12' in width. All loads in excess of 12' will display the red flags on the front corners of the load and flashing amber light will be mounted on the rear corners.
DIMENSIONAL LOAD: a. Overhang 15' or greater will require a front and/or rear escort depending on the location of the overhang(s) and a permit. b. Vehicles not exceeding a total length of 99', with a one piece load not butted end to end with another piece will only require the load to be flagged during daylight hours only. Trailers that exceed 53' long will require a permit. c. Vehicles with a total length exceeding 99', but are less than 105' must obtain an oversize permit, and will be required to have at least one escort vehicle. Escort may be increased to front and rear according to routes. d. Vehicles exceeding 105' total length will be required to obtain oversize permit, and must have at least one escort vehicle. Escorts may be increased to front and rear according to routes. e. This change will be effective April 1, 1998. All movement of loads in excess of 10', not exceeding 12' in width, will require, as a minimum, the use of red flags mounted on all corners of the load. f. All movement of loads in excess of 12', not exceeding 16' in width, on 2 lane roadways (one lane per direction or travel) will require, as a minimum, the use of a front escort and flashing amber lights mounted on the rear of the load. g. All movement of loads in excess of 12', not exceeding 16' in width, on divided highways (two or more through lanes per direction of travel) will require, as a minimum, the use of a rear escort and flashing amber lights mounted on the rear of the load. All loads exceeding 16' will require a front and rear escort. The state will require a pilot car with a height pole or extra Escorts if deemed necessary for size and weight. Over 14'6" may require a height pole. Overheight loads as controlled by route clearance.
ESCORT VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS A single motor vehicle equipped with a flashing or revolving amber Light and two (2) red flags mounted on top of the vehicle and an "Oversize Load" sign mounted on the front for the lead Escort and on the rear for the following Escort. Two-way radio contact will be required. Escort vehicle that alternates from lead to following shall have oversize signs front and rear. Escort vehicles must have headlights on.
TRAVEL TIME DAYLIGHT HOURS -The period beginning one-half (1/2) hour after sunrise and ending one-half (1/2) hour before sunset. Travel is permitted all day Saturday. No Sunday travel. Travel is prohibited on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. No movement after 12:00 noon on days proceeding these holidays. The State Permit Office will be closed on the above mentioned holidays as well as Martin Luther King Day and the day after Thanksgiving, but travel will not be restricted on these additional days. CURFEW: Transporters in excess of 12' shall time movements to avoid the major urban areas of Jackson, Memphis/South Haven, and Gulf Coast (excluding 1-10) from 7:00 am to 8:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. | |||||
