envelope vehicles associated with TRUCK OVERDIMENSIONAL PERMIT LIMITATIONS Weight: Single - 24,000 Lbs; Tandem 45,000 Lbs with 5 axles; 48,000 Lbs with 6 or more axles; Tridum - 70,000 Lbs; Quad - 80,000 Lbs. All these weights are depends on the number of tires. Gross weight: 5 Axles - 96,000 Lbs; 6 Axles - 120,000 Lbs; 7 Axles-120,000 Lbs on 2-lane road, 140,000 Lbs on 4-lanes; 8 Axles - 120,000 Lbs on 2-lane roads, 140,000 Lbs on 4-lanes. Length: 110' Width: 16' Height: 15'6" Depends on clearance. Anything over will have special attention. If load exceeds any of these dimensions or weights, refer to the State on Super Loads. TRUCK SIGNS & FLAGS FLAGS: Red or orange fluorescent flags a minimum of 18" square on all 4 corners of the load and extremities. SIGNS: Vehicles exceeding 10' 5" in width or front overhang shall have 2 warning signs, black letters on yellow background, "OVERSIZE LOAD", 7' long, 18" high with a brush stroke of 1.4". One sign on the front of power unit and the other at the rear end of load. ESCORT REQUIREMENTS On a 2-lane highways: 1 front escort if width over 10'6" to 12'; 2 escorts (front & rear) if width over 12' to 14'; 2 escorts (front & rear) if width over 14' may require; 1 front escort if length over 75' to 85'; 2 escorts (front & rear) if length over 85'; 2 rear escorts rear if length is over 120'. On 4 or more lane divided highways: 1 rear escort if width over 12'; 2 escorts (front & rear) if width over 14' may require; 1 rear escorts if length over 100'; 1 escort at point of overhang if overhang over 10'; 2 escorts (front & rear) on some highways, where conditions dictate the need. ESCORT VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS Escort vehicle must be a car or pickup truck. Vehicles require a flashing yellow Light on roof top. Escort must have headlamps on at all time. Maintain 300 feet distance and radio contact with load. TRAVEL TIME "Daylight hours" means the period of a day from 1/2 hour before sunrise until 1/2 hour after sunset, but it does not include any time when atmospheric conditions render visibility lower than is ordinarily the case during this period of the day. No overweight/overdimensional loads will be permitted to travel in Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Fayette, Jefferson County (Louisville) or at Owensboro KY 2155 bridge (between KY & IN) from 7-9 am or 4-6 pm, Monday thru Friday. Travel is prohibited on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day. Travel is prohibited from 12:00 noon on the day before the holiday until daylight the next permissible day. The State Permit Office is closed on the above mentioned holidays as well as Lincoln's Birthday, Good Friday and the day after Thanksgiving, but travel will not be restricted on these additional days. | |||||||||||
